What happens to my puppy's plan when they become an adult?Updated 2 days ago

đŸ¶ Transitioning Your Puppy to an Adult Nutrition Plan

As your puppy grows up, their nutritional needs evolve — and so should their Years Complete Nutrition Plan. While puppies thrive on diets rich in calories, protein, calcium, and DHA (to support brain development), adult dogs require a more balanced diet focused on maintenance rather than growth. Continuing puppy food into adulthood can lead to unwanted weight gain and health issues.

🎯 What Changes — and Why It Matters

  • Puppy diets are designed to fuel rapid growth and development.
  • Adult diets support long-term health and energy without excess calories.
  • Overfeeding puppy food once growth slows can increase the risk of obesity.

🧠 Let Years Handle the Transition

No need to stress — we’ve got it covered. Just keep your pup’s profile up to date in their dashboard, and we’ll automatically adjust their plan as they mature. You don’t even need to update their age — we’ll do that for you!

đŸ“Č What to Expect at 12 Months

When your dog turns 12 months old, you’ll see a prompt in their dashboard recommending a switch to an adult plan:

On a laptop or tablet, it looks like this:

And on a phone, it looks like this:

✅ Making the Switch

Tap the “Switch to adult plan” button, confirm your dog’s details, and preview the new plan. You’ll have the option to:

  • Approve the adult plan and begin the transition.
  • Reject it and continue with the current puppy plan (though we recommend switching!).

🐕 Breed-Specific Notes

  • Small breeds may reach adulthood before 12 months.
  • Large breeds might continue growing beyond 12 months.
